Schedule:
Hanover county schools have EARLY RELEASE on Fri. Nov. 6
It takes 1 hour and 45 minutes to get there.


FRIDAY NOVEMBER 6:
Arrive sometime after 3:00pm
The Cherokee Tribe will sleep in Cabins (Hogans) # 8, 9, 10 and 11.

There are beds in each hogan. Hogans # 8, 9, 10 sleep 6 people.

Hogan 11 sleeps 8 people. So each hogan will need to have one or two people sleeping on air mattresses or mats on the floor near the beds. Hogans are heated and have kitchens and beds.

 

The Funky Chicken family will be in Hogan # 10. (Each Family bring their own Friday dinner and your own breakfast and lunch food.

Plus any food you’d like to share.) When you arrive Friday, come over to hogan #10 to prepare dinner and relax and also settle into your hogan until the meeting at 8:30pm.

Friday: Afternoon
3:00pm: Check in can begin at 3:00pm
8:30pm: Opening Ceremony - Order of the Owl
10:00pm: Settle in
Saturday:  
9:00am BB Guns, Archery, Lacrosse Toss
10:00am War Games
(Lower campground: 10-15 minute walk from hogans, parking available)
11:30am Hike back to hogans
Noon Lunch/Dad’s begin afternoon nap rotation
1:00pm Afternoon Activities
  Geo-caching (GPS scavenger hunting)
and/or you can do Craft Making
   
2:30pm Apple hour/Free time
  Great 2 mile canoe route – (BYOC)
  Old logging roads for 4 wheeling
  Many hiking trails and fishing ponds
5:00pm Tribal Chief's meeting
5:30pm
Progressive Dinner
(meal and supplies provided to us to serve)
Each tribe will create a short skit or song to sing when we serve our portion of the dinner.
  Each tribe will serve a different item:
  Drinks - Chippewa
  Appetizers - Pamlico
  Main Meal - Apache/Comanche
  Desert - Cherokee
8:00pm Gathering Fire Drum Call/Ceremony (Lower campground: 10-15 minute walk from hogans,
parking available)
Sunday:  
9:00am Morning/Closing Ceremony

Sunday check out time is 10:00am

 

 

 

 

James River State Park, six miles down river from Bent Creek, opened June 20, 1999. The park has three miles of river frontage, 1,500 acres of rolling farm meadows, three fishing ponds, beautiful vistas, 15 miles of hiking trails and quiet forests. 

 

Directions From Richmond:

Travel west on Rt. 60 towards Amherst for about 60 miles. Turn right onto Rt. 605 (Riverside Dr.) at the James River Bridge and go 7 miles to the park entrance on the left (Route 606).

Travel Time:

Approx. 1hr 45min.


1) Daylight savings time is the week before, so it will be darker earlier


2) Hanover county schools have EARLY RELEASE on Fri. Nov. 6.


3) We'll have a Nation Dinner on Saturday night.  Each tribe will need to sing/skit/entertain when they serve their portion of the dinner.
